Prometheus, in Greek mythology, was one of the Titans, known primarily as a benefactor of humanity. According to the myth, he shaped the first humans out of clay, and seeing their helplessness, he decided to grant them the abilities necessary for survival. His most famous deed was stealing fire from the gods of Olympus and giving it to humans – a symbol of knowledge, technology, culture, and progress. This rebellion against the divine order brought him severe punishment from Zeus: eternal torment in which an eagle would eat his regenerating liver every day. Through this, Prometheus became an archetype of the individual who sacrifices himself for the good of others.

In a broader, contemporary context, Prometheus symbolizes human ambition, the desire for knowledge, and constant progress – sometimes risky as well. His myth reminds us that development requires both courage and responsibility. In an age of technology, artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, and space exploration, the “Promethean” attitude is more relevant than ever: humanity reaches for new powers that can elevate civilization to a higher level, but can also create new dangers. This is why Prometheus remains one of the most important mythological points of reference – he reminds us that the pursuit of knowledge is a foundation of being human, but it requires wisdom and an awareness of consequences.
